Crushing the Illusion

I had something silly happen to me the other day that I think points out some of the problems we have in waking people up in this country. A friend of mine posted on Facebook that he had to take his GM truck to the dealer to get fixed. I couldn't help myself and made a crack about "Government Motors." This guy, who I don't know, jumped in a said that it was no longer "Government Motors." I had to remind him that they got my tax dollars and as a tax payer, I can call them "Government Motors." Well, I might as well talked about his mom because he lost it. He told me about how his family had worked for GM for 3 generations and that the bailout was a great thing. I tried to explain the economic fallacy of bailouts and you would have thought I spit on this guy. I so offended him that he threatened me twice with violence over Facebook. The idea of someone being a Facebook tough guy makes me laugh but it did make me realize something. You can do a lot of things to people without them pushing back but when you shatter their illusions, watch out. Probably the most upset a kid ever gets is the day you tell them there is no Santa Clause. Even if in the back of their heads they think he might not be real, when they realize its true it just crushes them for days. This is why the government can get away with what it does because they let you keep your illusions. You can still believe your voice is being heard, that congress and the president actually cares about you. This is also why people like Ron Paul gets so much push back. He shatters people illusions. I want everyone to know that when I say something about certain topics, its not to kill Santa but you tell you the truth. If we as a people are going to progress we have to drop our illusions and put Santa to bed.
